How much does ethernet installation cost?

The cost of installing one or two cables can range anywhere between $300 to $850, for larger projects you can expect anywhere between $1,200 to $60,000+. Like most trades, the cost to run an ethernet cable or the cost of structured cabling will depend on many factors.

The number of cables required, the type of cable required and the total hours required for the job are all variables that will determine the overall cost of a project.

Whether we agree on Time & Material Pricing, or if we provide a firm pricing proposal, we construct our pricing in a similar way. We estimate the total amount of material and labour hours and apply the rates discussed on this page.

You can use our Commercial Instant Estimate Calculator to determine a rough budget estimate for your cable installation project. We are open about our commercial network cable pricing.

Labour Rates

Labour rates also vary widely in this industry. Expect to pay $30 to $150 per hour for one technician for ethernet cable installation. Price depends on the technician’s experience and the company’s reliability. Cheap freelancers might lack proper knowledge and equipment, while established companies offer skilled technicians and ensure quality work.

Material Choice: Generic vs. Certifiable Brands

Choosing the right materials is essential for a reliable and long-lasting network. Here’s a breakdown of your options:

Certifiable Brands

These established brands like Hubbell, Panduit, CommScope, and Belden offer top-tier quality. Running Cables is a certified installer of Hubbell solutions and are able to provide a 25-year manufacturer-backed warranty.
You can expect:

  • Cost: $0.30 to $0.60 per foot of Cat6 cable and $8.00 to $18.00 per network jack.
  • Benefits: More rigorous testing, proven reputation, and a potential 25-year warranty.

Generic Brands

These budget-friendly options come at a lower cost:

  • Cost: Cable ranges from $0.25 to $0.30 per foot and jacks from $2.00 to $4.00. Some generic brands can be well-constructed compared to major brands.
  • Potential Downsides: Lower quality materials may lead to breakage or connectivity issues. If you don’t know what to look for you could install poor quality materials.

Our Solution

We offer both certifiable and generic solutions!

  • Certifiable Solution: Ideal for those seeking maximum reliability and a long warranty.
  • Generic Solution: A cost-effective option for budget-minded customers, but be sure the quality is vetted.

No matter your choice, all installations are rigorously tested with high-end equipment to meet the highest industry standards. Our field techs are outfitted with Fluke testers and test every cable to ensure our work meets the highest TIA (Telecommunications Industry Association) standards.
